All landlords in Scotland offering long term tenancies are required to register with the local council which covers the area where their let property is located. As part of the registration process landlords are required to declare that they are complying with certain duties, known as prescribed information. These duties include understanding the Repairing Standard, having the right safety certificates in place and being able to provide them to the local council if requested to do so.
This webinar will provide a brief guide to your duties as a landlord, talk through each area of the prescribed information and provide guidance on answering the questions you will be asked when you register with Orkney Island Council. Questions can be asked throughout the webinar and will be answered live by the course host, Elspeth Boyle and the course tutor, Gail Bowden at the end of the session.
Topics that will be covered
- Landlord registration – the basics
- Preparing to register as a landlord – what you need to know
- Where to find the information you need.

Webinar FAQs
LAS webinars have been created to allow us to bring you the information we would have providing when we were with you face to face.
We have done our best to replicate the experience you had when you were in the room with us, so that we can continue to provide you with the information you need to continue to manage your rental properties well and the updates you need during COVID-19.
Can I still ask questions in the same way as I could at the face to face courses?
Yes, you can. You will not be on camera when you do this. There is the facility to ask questions all the way through the webinar and we will answer as many of these as we can on the day
No. We won’t be able to see you and neither will anyone else attending the webinar
Still not sure a webinar is for you?
Please call the LAS team and we can chat to you about webinar and answer any questions you have.
