Why should Letting Agents become accredited?

Accreditation is an excellent way of giving good Letting Agents public recognition and helping tenants in seeking safe, secure and good quality accommodation to rent. All Accredited Letting Agents will benefit from:

  • the status of being publicly identified as a good agent
  • distancing themselves from incompetent or unscrupulous agents
  • the business advantage of advertising their accredited status to tenants who place emphasis on good quality and well managed accommodation
  • Access to in-house training services.

Landlord Accreditation Scotland aims to work with Letting Agents to:

  • promote good standards of management and best practice by agents
  • provide information on good practice to agents and tenants
  • give recognition to agents whose properties are of good standard
  • create a good working relationship between local authorities and agents
  • provide tenants with confidence in the quality and management of their accommodation
  • improve and promote the public image of the private rented sector
  • assist agents and tenants to fulfill their responsibilities with regard to rented accommodation
  • reduce disputes and misunderstandings between agents and tenants
  • provide up-to-date information on new legislation, initiatives or policies affecting the private rented sector
  • access to support and advice & training from housing professionals

The required standards are set out in the Scottish Core Standards for Accredited Landlords.
